Size Abnormalities

Have your breasts become less firm and smaller due to pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Do you have one breast that is obviously smaller than the other?

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that can help add or restore volume to your breasts by inserting implants.

Hundreds of thousands of women undergo the procedure every year for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons include:

  • Enlarging the size of the natural breast
  • Correcting asymmetry in breasts (breasts are two different sizes)
  • Restoring volume due to weight loss, pregnancy, or breast-feeding
  • To boost self-confidence

A breast augmentation procedure involves making an incision and inserting an implant into the breast pocket. Recovery generally involves 24 to 48 hours of reduced activity.

Breast Implant Choices

Before your surgery, you will meet with Dr. Saltz and his nurse for an initial consultation. He will review your general health, implant options available based on your chest diameter, shape and size of your natural breasts, details of the procedure, and subsequent recovery. You will make a few decisions regarding your breast implants before scheduling your surgery, including the breast implant type (silicone versus saline), the implant size, and the implant incision location.

Types of Breast Implants – Silicone or Saline

The type of implant you choose depends on multiple factors, including the desired size, look, and feel of your new breasts.

Silicone Gel Implants

Silicone implants use the same silicone shell as saline implants but are filled with medical silicone gel. Silicone implants offer different levels of cohesion in the gel. A highly cohesive gel implant provides long-term results and a lower chance of leakage. Silicone gel typically feels much like natural tissue; however, they require regular follow-up appointment to ensure subtle leakage has not occurred.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants are made of a silicone shell filled with a sterile salt water solution. They can be adjusted to the desired size based on the enlargement, firmness, and shape that best suits your body. If a saline implant should leak, the salt water naturally absorbs into the body without risk to the patient.

Dr. Saltz will consider the options carefully with you to ensure that you have a successful breast augmentation procedure!

Every situation is different, but most most candidates fall into the following categories:
